Dua for Protection Against Evil

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ‏

·   Transliteration: Laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in Qadeer.

·  English Translation: None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and his are the praise and he is able to do all things.

It was narrated by Narrated Abu Ayyash that The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

“If anyone says in the morning: ‘There is no god but Allah alone Who has no partner; to him belong the dominions, to him praise is due, and he is omnipotent,’ he will have a reward equivalent to that for setting free a slave from among the descendants of Isma’il. He will have ten good deeds recorded for him, ten evil deeds deducted from him, he will be advanced ten degrees, and will be guarded against the Devil till the evening. If he says them in the evening, he will have a similar recompense until the morning.”

Dua for Protection Against Harship

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration: Laaa ilaaha illaaa Anta Subhaanaka innee kuntu minaz zaalimeen

English Translation:  There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.

Surah al-Anbiya Ayat 87

Reciting this dua might provide us comfort when we are feeling down and out. During his time in the belly of the whale, Prophet Younus al-Alaihissalam uttered this dua as a penitential act of repentance.

Many times, we find ourselves in circumstances where our adversaries want to hurt us. Younus alaihissalam, who was engulfed in three levels of darkness and had no one else to turn to except Allah, may serve as an example for us all. Allah is the only one who can determine our destiny and protect us from our adversaries.

Dua for Protection Against Weakness

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Transliteration: Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oothu bika minal-hammi walhazani, wal’ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, wa dhala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal

English Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (i.e., others).

Al-Bukhari 7/158.

      This dua is crucial to include in our list because it addresses a particular type of opponent against whom we should constantly seek Allah's protection. This foe may be found within ourselves and our mental condition.

Dua for Protection After Leaving the House

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّه     

Transliteration: Bismi-llaahi, tawakkaltu ’ala-llaahi, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa bi-llaah 

English Translation: In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Sunan Abi Dawud 5095, Book 43, Hadith 323

When we leave the house, we frequently prefer to repeat something that will protect us from any threats that may exist outside of our comfort zone.

 When we leave the house, we might recite this dua to ask Allah to protect us from unforeseen foes and dangers. This dua appears in three Hadith texts and is often repeated by Muslims.

       Narrated Anas ibn Malik:

 The Prophet (pbuh) said: When a man leaves his residence and says: “In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah,” the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?

Dua of Protection for your Children and Family

رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ

Transliteration: Rabbi ijAAalnee muqeemas salati wamin zurriyyatee rabbana wtaqabbal duAAa

English Translation: O my Lord ! make me one who establishes regular prayer and (also) from my offspring ,our Lord ! and accept my invocation

Surah Ibrahim Verse 40

Ayatul Kursi is another dua you might say to protect yourself and your family

You should recite the dua for your family's safety three times in the morning before leaving the house and three times at night.
